Banksia Pods - Turning Blanks
Banksia Banksia grandis The cones commonly used for woodturning are the fruit body remains from the flower head spike of the Bull Banksia tree. These pods can be from 4 to 16 inches long, and make for excellent turning material because of the unusual surface with its outstanding seed capsules. Banksia pods or nuts can create a lot of dust when turned, so good ventilation and adequate dust protection are essential. Also, the pods can be quite hard, so sharp tools should be used to work with them. Typical Uses: Handles, clock bases, and dried flower vases Source Region: Australia |
